Miko Underwood is the founder and designer of Oak & Acorn ~ Only for the Rebelles, the first sustainable brand in Harlem, NY. The genderless, size-inclusive, luxury denim brand pays homage to the untold story of Indigenous Americans’ and enslaved Africans’ longstanding contributions to American manufacturing and denim. Oak & Acorn threads sustainable fabrics, historic storytelling, and social impact with fashion. Underwood has been an active voice in the sustainable denim space while raising awareness for organizations like We Got Us Now, which support and empower impacted communities.
In 2020, Underwood founded “The Denim Collective”, an educational initiative to highlight the Black community's contributions to the origins of American fashion, beginning with denim. She's also co-authored articles on the history of denim for the Zoe Report and the Council of Fashion Designers of America. Underwood has been featured in SPIN OFF and Highsnobiety as a "brand to watch" as well as Essence, Fashionista, Heddels, RIVET, Refinery29, Levi's, and Patagonia. As of 2021, Oak & Acorn is the first Black-owned and designed brand on Nordstrom’s New York City flagship’s designer floor.
