Growing up, Jam+Rico founder Lisette Ffolkes was always influenced by her culture. With immigrant grandparents from Jamaica and Puerto Rico, Ffolkes was curious about their upbringings and the traditions formed from their homelands. Early inspiration came from food and music in the home: salsa, reggae, arroz con pollo, pasteles, jerk, and curry were among the most prominent. The colors, carnivals, art, beaches, and language all inspired Ffolkes to create and design. Jam+Rico (Jamaica and Puerto Rico) was created to dive deeper into Ffolkes’s love of designing and the Caribbean, and to connect more closely to her ancestry.
