Founder Diondra Julian is a small town girl with a dream of making it big in New York City, the Michigan native’s 18-year career in the fashion industry spans from design to production for companies such as Public School, Diana Von Furstenberg, Rogan/Loomstate, Mara Hoffman, Sean John, and DKNYJeans. Working behind the scenes, Julian has collaborated on pieces worn by Misty Copeland, Bono, Margot Robbie, and Oprah Winfrey and for pieces that have graced the pages of Vogue, Elle, and other major publications.
In the fall of 2014, these experiences culminated in the creation of Suzy Black NYC, a luxury intimates and lounge brand manufactured in the heart of the New York City garment district. Inspired by her mother’s decadent femininity, Julian sought to create a brand that celebrated the average girl in all variations, reminding herself that she too is a “dream girl.” Suzy Black has grown to include extended sizing, a companion collection of swim and resort, and commitments to sustainability, ethical manufacturing, and domestic production. “Each day, I work to re-imagine Suzy Black as the best version of what it can be, for my ‘dream girls’ and for our planet,” says Julian.
